THE mum of murdered teenager Paige Doherty has paid her respects to her daughter’s dad after the Record revealed he “died of a broken heart”.

Ex-boxer Jon Bothwell, 37, passed away after struggling to cope with the loss of his daughter, who was brutally killed in 2016.

His body was found at his flat in Cambuslang, near Glasgow, on Saturday night.

Pamela Munro, Paige’s mum, posted a bittersweet tribute to her ex-partner on social media, and claimed he had “played no part” in her life.

She wrote: “It is a sad fact that Paige’s death claimed the life of her biological dad and I hope he is at peace.

“Jon and I were very young when we had Paige.

“We split up when I was pregnant. He had another family soon after Paige’s birth and we both got on with our lives.

“Jon never played any part in Paige’s life.

“She was Bothwell on her birth certificate but the name was changed at three weeks old and she took my second name.”

She added: “I never asked Jon for anything for Paige and she had no Christmas or birthday cards etc.

“Paige was 13 before she saw her dad and he changed his number two weeks later. He had his own life and recognised Paige had hers.

“Had he wanted see her, he knew he could have.”

Vicious John Leathem stabbed Paige 61 times in Clydebank in March 2016.

He pled guilty to her murder and had his jail term reduced from 27 years to 23 after an appeal.
