Gerrard: We’ve beaten Ufa once so let’s go and defeat them once more on the plastic this time

The Ibrox club are just 90 minutes away from the group stage of the tournament and with it the prize money and prestige they have craved since their collapse into the financial abyss six years ago.

Gerrard revealed the club are putting the finishing touches to moves for Albanian winger Eros Grezda and progress has also been made in contract talks with Alfredo Morelos.

But his focus is fixed on today’s clash on the artificial pitch in the Neftyanik Stadium as they guard a 1-0 lead from last week’s first leg at Ibrox.

Gerrard, who fought through a throng of Liverpool fans after arriving at the team hotel at 10pm, said: “We are confident. We played against this team less than a week ago and beat them.

“We kept a clean sheet and we felt our performanc­e deserved a bigger advantage. We treat this game in isolation but we come here with belief and confidence.

“The lads believe they can get the job done. I wouldn’t say it’s the biggest game in our history because the history at Rangers is so big. The club has played in many games.

“However, it’s our responsibi­lity to try and help add to that. We have a responsibi­lity to try and bring European football back.”
