McCall snubs Bairns rebuild to keep Ayr project on track

-

IAN McCALL has snubbed Falkirk because he believes he’s building something big at Ayr.

The former Bairns boss dashed his old club’s hopes of luring him back for a second spell yesterday when he insisted he’s staying put at Somerset Park.

And the disappointment kept coming as another candidate, Jim McIntyre, also rejected Falkirk’s advances to become Paul Hartley’s successor.

That leaves the club casting the net to quickly find a suitable replacement with the team bottom of the Championship on zero points after three games.

First choice McCall admits Falkirk still hold a special place in his heart in a statement released on Ayr’s official website yesterday. But he revealed he refused to swap top for bottom because he couldn’t turn his back on the project he is building with the Honest Men.

McCall said: “I had a very brief meeting with Falkirk and made the decision to stay at Ayr.

“I believe we have a young and exciting team. The club is moving in the right direction though there is still a lot of hard work to do and I have a very personal debt to chairman Lachlan Cameron.

“Having played and managed at Falkirk before I am very aware they are a very special club and I wish them all the best.”

McIntyre has ruled himself out of the running despite being out of work since he was sacked by Ross County last September.
