Hogg finally gets his kicks

-

For boss Dave Rennie it was far from a vintage display from his Warriors – but he hailed them for finding a way to win.

There were alarming signs for the coach in Glasgow’s performance yet he was thrilled with their persistence and sheer determination.

As he turned his focus to Friday’s home clash with mighty Munster, Rennie said: “You have to be happy when your team comes out on top with a bonus point on the road.

“We were down to 14 men when we were trailing by nine points late in the second half.

“The guys showed a hell of a lot of character during that spell to get their noses in front.

“We were far from perfect but I’m happy to get five points.”

Connacht chief Andy Friend BY DAVID KELSO said: “You have to give credit to the Warriors – that is why they are a good side.

“When we were nine points ahead with 20 minutes left I thought we had them but they managed to grind it out.”

Connacht still had a chance to win it at the death as Craig Ronaldson’s stoppage-time penalty crashed off the post – allowing Hogg to boot it to safety as the whistle sounded.

Hogg had also set up the first try with just 65 seconds on the clock – his chip being pounced on by Tommy Seymour.

The Irish side burst back as Jack Carty slotted a penalty and converted Cian Kelleher’s touchdown to fire the lead.

Hooker George Turner got the Warriors up and running again with an opportunist score only for Finlay Bealham snatch a second for Connacht.

Glasgow co-captain Ryan Wilson then spiralled over from close quarters as action swung back to the other end. them into

Three more penalties by Carty and Adam Hastings’s yellow card set Warriors back on their heels.

But his absence acted as a spur and sub Adam Ashe was driven over – with Hogg converting to cut the deficit.

He then gleefully added the winning strike before Glasgow survived that late scare..
