Julie's style secrets

Looks for autumn, from floral dresses to wide jeans and slogan T-shirts.

I LOVE September. It’s when the shops finally clear the messy sale rails away and all the new winter clothes start appearing.

When it comes to fashion, I’m definitely a winter kind of woman.

Lightweight summery fabrics can be really unforgiving, but with lots of cosy layers, rich knits and tailoring, you can experiment with new season trends with confidence – and not a crop top in sight.

I’ll always invest more in my winter wardrobe than in my summer. It pays to spend as much as you can afford on quality pieces that you will bring back out each year.

This season, I’ve fallen in love with Boden. It’s an online shop I’ve ignored for years but it’s full of fab shirt dresses, gorgeous tailored trousers and stylish knits. With lots of affordable new trends done in a grown-up way, it’s perfect for women in their 40s like me. Check it out for yourself at www.boden.co.uk

For evening dresses and smarter pieces, LavishAlice.com is worth a visit, too. They’ve got gorgeous evening suits and not-too-short dresses that are a little bit different from what’s on the high street.

To make it easier to decide what to buy, they’ve introduced a new try-before-you-buy service, so you ca treat your bedroom like a dressing room and try on everything you’ve ordered before you have to pay.
