City were hot stuff in Cyprus

-

BY ANDREW SOUTHWICK BOSS Scott Booth insists his Glasgow City side showed they belong on the big stage by shining in the baking heat of Cyprus.

City beat Somatio Barcelona 2-0 on Wednesday in scorching temperatures to take control of their Champions League last-32 clash.

And ahead of tomorrow’s Scottish Cup clash with minnows Renfrew, Booth said: “We have a lot of experience in the team.

“We really wanted this and the players deserved it.

“I have to give the girls all the credit because they worked incredibly hard in very hot conditions.”

Both sides finished with 10 players as Rita Akaffou saw red for Barcelona then Leanne Ross picked up a second yellow for taking a free-kick too quickly.

Booth said: “It was really harsh. The referee was maybe trying to level things up a little bit.”

Booth is likely to make changes for the Scottish Cup quarter-final clash.

Holders Hibs face a derby with Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale, Motherwell are away to St Johnstone and Spartans host Celtic.
