Cap duo will give Killie a Power charge
ALAN POWER insists watching Stephen O’Donnell and Jordan Jones star on the international stage has inspired the rest of the Kilmarnock squad.
And he’s hoping their heroics can lift Steve Clarke’s side as they bid to dump Hibs today.
Full-back O’Donnell impressed as he helped Alex McLeish’s Scotland side beat Albania 2-0 at Hampden in the BY DAVID WREN opening Nations Cup clash. And winger Jones started for the Irish as they crushed Israel 3-0 in a friendly.
Now Rugby Park midfielder Power hopes their success can spur on the rest of the squad.
The Irishman said: “A few of the younger boys could be thinking if they can do it why can’t I? That’s upping everyone’s game.” Power represented the Republic of Ireland in youth football, turning out at every level from Under-17s to Under-21s.
He admits a senior call-up is now unlikely at the age of 30 but won’t be giving up just yet.
The Dubliner said: “It has always been my dream to get a cap but if it doesn’t happen I won’t be too disappointed.”
