Craig didn’t want credit but he still deserves it

- BY ALAN MARSHALL

ALLOA striker Greig Spence admits he feels a pang of regret after outing Craig Gordon’s kind gesture on Twitter.

The former Bhoys trainee was left with a painful rib injury after being caught by the Celtic keeper during the September 2016 League Cup defeat at Parkhead.

The 26-year-old was able to complete the game but the part-timer missed out on his day job, as a plumber with his dad, for a month as he recovered.

But he was stunned when Gordon made the offer to help out financially.

Gordon’s good deed only came to light when Spence tweeted on Thursday after the shot-stopper was accused of hypocrisy for criticising the SFA’s disciplinary system in the wake of Rangers keeper Allan McGregor’s kick on Kristoffer Ajer.

Spence said: “I was off for about a month. The tackle came in and went into my ribs. I managed to play on for the rest of the game and the games after but I took a rest from my work – it was one I needed to recover from and it was quite sore

“After the game Craig apologised and said, ‘Look, if you have any problems just get in touch’.

“He found out I was off work and he got in touch and we sorted something.

“He wanted it kept quiet so I really shouldn’t have tweeted about it because I feel as though I’ve put him in a position. As much as it makes him look good he wanted it kept private.

“But when I saw him taking some abuse I thought it was harsh and that’s why I tweeted.”
