Record braker

GRANDAD Len Collingwood left Edinburgh in a rickshaw to travel across Europe.

Fifteen weeks and more than 3000 miles later, it looks like he’s heading into the Guinness World Records book as well.

Len also raised £15,000 for charity – that’s what you call pedal power.

A GRANDAD who cycled more than 3000 miles across Europe on a rickshaw is heading for the Guinness World Records book.

Len Collingwood, 66, pedalled through 14 countries in 15 weeks, starting in Edinburgh and finishing yesterday in Istanbul, Turkey.

He set off on June 1 and crossed England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, camping in his tent along the way.

Halfway through, he believes he beat the record-holder for the longest journey by cycle rickshaw/ pedicab. Scott Thompson racked up 1613.82 miles in 2015 in Indonesia.

Len’s 3200-mile journey was to raise £15,0000 for Cancer Research UK.

He said can’t wait to see wife Sally, 55, today.

Len said: “I made my way over to Istanbul last night and cycled the last couple of miles this morning.

“Two local lawyers agreed to act as independent witnesses, which is brilliant.”

Guinness World Records said it can take up to 12 weeks for new record claims to be verified.
