Yes we Khan do something to stop Brexit happening
THE demands for a People’s Vote are growing by the day.
At the weekend, London mayor Sadiq Khan became the latest senior politician to back the call for voters to have a say on the final Brexit deal.
As he rightly said, that should include the option to remain in the European Union. The next few weeks are among the most important periods we will ever witness in British politics.
With the Tories preparing for their annual conference, which many predict will be Theresa May’s last as leader, the Prime Minister has adopted an uncompromising position.
She said MPs will have to choose between her flawed Chequers deal or no deal at all.
We will also have the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, with tens of thousands of Labour members calling for us to support a People’s Vote.
I hope we choose the right side of history.
The Prime Minister is wrong: this is not a binary choice between her Chequers deal or a catastrophic ‘no deal’ scenario.
Both options she is presenting are disastrous for our country – there is no such thing as a good Brexit. It’s a false choice. Her actions will ensure that demands for a People’s Vote only get louder.
The UK’s national interest, hundreds of thousands of jobs, as well as the future of young people and vital public services, are at stake in the coming weeks.
It’s time to put the decision in the hands of the people.
