A FAMILY has been left with a “massive hole in their heart” over the sudden death of their 12-year-old girl.

Rachel Stevens died after taking ill at her home on Friday.

She was rushed to hospital but attempts to save her failed.

Rachel, from Burnbank, Hamilton, was a pupil at St John Ogilvie High School.

A local news website run by volunteers claimed Rachel had been taunted by school bullies for a number of years.

The Blantyre Herald site reported: “This little angel had her full life ahead of her.

“What makes this tragic loss all the more shocking are the events which led up to it.

“Sadly, it is known Rachel had been bullied since Primary 7, something which followed her to high school.

“Taunts from her peers had a devastating impact on Rachel’s wellbeing.” An unnamed family member also reportedly told the website: “Her family are devastated. This has left a massive hole in their heart.

“A fundraising page has been set up to help them.

“They have no idea we’ve set this up but as a community, surely we have to help as much as we can.

“The family can’t begin to think about their loss but knowing people are out there who care, I’m sure will be such a comfort to them.”

People expressed their sadness on Facebook.

Elaine Stomboli wrote: “My god, 12 years old... horrific. Thoughts go to this little girl’s family.”

The GoFundMe page surpassed its £2000 goal yesterday.

Last night, the family were too upset to comment. ●To talk to someone regarding this story call Samaritans on 116 123 or Childline on 0800 1111.
