THERE are no Scots in the new series of The Apprentice but Glasgow’s Squinty Bridge takes pride of place in all the photos. As well as appearing in the main photo of the 16 new budding entrepreneurs, the bridge also features in Lord Sugar’s new press photograph and those of of his advisers Baroness Brady and Claude Littner. This is because one of the show’s tasks will be set in Glasgow, where the candidates have to sell art. The only other time the series has been to Scotland was in Edinburgh in 2012.

Other tasks this year will take place in London, Birmingham and Malta.

A spokeswoman for the show said: “To highlight the number of different locations for this year’s tasks, eagle-eyed fans will notice the photography of Lord Sugar, Karren, Claude and the candidates features a skyline including Malta, Birmingham and Glasgow as well as London.”

Sugar ups the ante from the start and warns candidates to “expect the unexpected”.

For his first challenge, he sends them to Malta with a word of warning: “Remember, this is not a holiday”.

On the island, the business hopefuls have to buy nine items at the lowest possible prices.

Later in the series, candidates will clinch deals at a bodybuilding expo in Birmingham and launch a budget airline in London.

The candidates come from a broad range of backgrounds – from law, tax and tree surgery to fashion design, marketing and sport. They are aiming to secure a £250,000 investment in their business plan and win a partnership with Sugar.

● The Apprentice returns on Wednesday, October 3 on BBC1 at 9pm.
