Brustad: I can be star Accies hitman after tips from United hero Solskjaer

-

IT all went stale for striker Fredrik Brustad at Molde.

But not before he had learned from one of the game’s greatest poachers in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Now the Norwegian hitman is relishing a fresh challenge on loan at Hamilton where he plans to put those lessons to good use and tear up the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Molde boss and Manchester United legend Solksjaer couldn’t guarantee Brustad a game this season so he’s taken his talents to Lanarkshire and insists Accies have too much quality to be relegation fodder.

Brustad said: “I spoke to Solskjaer and we were both very honest with each other. I told him if I didn’t get enough playing time I wanted to try my luck elsewhere.

“He was nice enough to let me go on loan so I’m happy with that. Of course I still learned a lot from him. It was amazing to train under him and you can tell he’s played at the very highest level.

“You can see from his touch he’s still got it. I learned a lot from Solskjaer as an attacker. I came to Scotland for a new experience. I wasn’t happy with the game time I was getting at Molde.

“Sometimes I was on the bench and sometimes I wouldn’t be playing.

“I felt I had more in me and wanted to contribute more. I’m not going to just sit at a club and not play. For my own improvement I have to play.

“I like new challenges and Hamilton seemed a good place to go.

“It was an interesting notion to try the Scottish league.”

Brustad hit the ground running as BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY

he netted his first Accies goal in his second outing during last weekend’s 3-0 home debut win over St Mirren.

He is hoping for a repeat when Accies host Dundee.

Brustad said “It was pleasing to get my first goal. It’s always good to get that out of the way and we had a really good performance as well.

“It was a very good home debut and a good game for us. It showed we can beat teams around about us.

“It’s an important game coming up on Saturday against Dundee as well.

“We have good players in the team and shouldn’t just be expecting to be near the bottom. We should always try to aim a little bit higher.

“Hopefully I can bring a lot of speed, power and goals. I’m a team player and I want the best for the team.”

While Brustad concedes his knowledge of Scottish football is fairly limited he joked our game has lived up to its billing.

He said: “I’m here until May. Beyond that you never know.

“I know very little about Scottish football.

“My only impression is Scots are aggressive and a little bit crazy and so far that seems pretty accurate!”
