TV institution celebrates 30 years of dominating the daytime airwaves

T’S hard to imagine daytime television without This Morning. The show has played a pivotal part in changing the TV landscape since it first aired back on October 3, 1988.

As well as pushing boundaries, bagging top guests and delving into the week’s biggest stories, there have been way too many jaw-dropping moments, gaffes and giggles.

We’ve listed 30 of the most memorable This Morning moments: 1. Who can forget the day after the show won big at the National Television Awards in 2016? After a night out celebrating, presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby started the show lying down on the sofa, dressed in their outfits from the night before.

2.

Gino D’Acampo is a great cook who is unintentionally funny. In 2011, he vowed to cook naked if the show won a National TV Award. And after they did, he was true to his word, cheekily flashing his bottom. Hygienic? Maybe not. 3. Keeping with Gino, his ropey command of English adds to the fun. While he was making a meal, Holly suggested adding ham would turn the dish into a carbonara. The TV chef wasn’t impressed, saying: “If my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike.” 4. Did we mention Holly and Phil laughing? They do. A lot. And they love innuendo. Our favourite is the time Gino served a reluctant Holly a mussel and she admitted: “Once it’s in, I love it...” 5. It’s not just Phil and Holly who like a bit of innuendo. Back when Fern Britton was presenting with Phil, she got the giggles when he tucked into a tasty dish and she reckoned he “doesn’t mind dunking a bit of beef ”. 6. Richard Madeley kept trying to be cool when he presented This Morning with wife Judy Finnigan. He had the air of an embarrassing uncle and the nadir was a cringeworthy Ali G impression in 2000. 7. Richard interrupted a nativity play to pretend headbutt a child. It was so hard that the youngster fell over. Judy said: “Think he’s feeling a bit frisky today”. Ho ho ho. 8. Richard was up for anything, even in 1998 when the show invited three couples with erectile dysfunction issues to test the then new drug Viagra, packing them off to a hotel for an hour. 9. Still with Richard, who can forget (we’ve tried) when he swapped places with Judy to wear a wig and tights while she wore his suit and tie. Why? We’ve forgotten that bit. 10. Perhaps due to the demographic of the show, This Morning has always covered health issues. In 2014, Dr Chris Steele conducted the first live testicle examination, giving potentially life-saving advice as he demonstrated on a model how to self-check. 11. Chris has had many memorable This Morning moments. His first arguably came when he instructed viewers on how to wipe their bottoms properly. Apparently you go from front to back. Who knew? 12. Paul Ross underwent a rectal exam in 2011. He was one of 30 men who volunteered to be examined for prostate cancer live on air by Chris. Has he been on TV since?

13. In 2015, Phil put a nipple clamp on his ear for a Fifty Shades of Grey-inspired bondage for beginners segment.

14. Being live TV, things go wrong. At best, it’s when Phil and Holly can’t stop laughing. At worst, in 2003, it was a knife thrown at Yana Rodionova’s head so hard it left Fern shrieking: “Oh my God, there’s blood”

15. Kerry Katona slurred her way through an interview in 2008. Phil and Fern repeatedly asked her if
