What would you cook to impress? Anything that is cooked with love is impressive. I try to cook with my heart. Do your friends get nervous cooking for you? Not at all – I’m very easily pleased. I’m a simple boy with simple needs. Best thing you’ve ever eaten? I just came back from Lake Como and went to a little restaurant up in the mountains, where a young man cooked sausage in the back of his van. It was the best sausage I’ve ever had. What is your worst culinary disaster? My pineapple disgrace on the show – I will never live that down. What were your fears for the final? The menu I cook in the MENTORS Judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode final is very personal to me. You could say it’s my heritage. It’s really close to my heart, so I want to do it proud. Who was the most helpful, John or Gregg? John taught me how to peel ginger with the back of a spoon, so you could say I’m team Torode. But I still love you, Gregg. Who is your favourite TV chef and why? My favourite TV chef is Marcus Wareing, he’s great. What would your final death row meal be? Anything with gravy. What is your ultimate cooking ambition? To snatch the MasterChef trophy. What’s your best cooking tip? Less is more – simple ingredients, cooked well.
