Ed isn’t the Od man out

- by CraIg SWan

LEIGH GRIFFITHS insists time and patience can see Odsonne Edouard fulfil his potential as a top-class striker at Celtic.

During an unsettling period for the champions Griffiths has done what he does best – come up with the goods.

But he knows he and his team are under constant scrutiny with young French star Edouard toiling under the strain.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a stunning loan spell with the Hoops last season before being snapped up for a club record £9million from PSG in the summer.

He’s struggled to find the form that saw Celts splash the cash, with injuries playing their part, but Griff has backed the youngster to eventually come good.

He said: “You can see the big man’s qualities. He can make space, he gets the ball and drives at folk and he’s a big threat.

“We started together in Perth and hopefully it’s a partnership going forward.

“As a striker you are always going to be under the cosh, especially if you are not scoring.

“But the big man works tirelessly in games and in training. He’s a big talent and people have seen what he can produce.

“Folk have to remember he is only 20, he’s still a young lad, but he has all the talent in the world.

“As a striker you want to be selfish, you want to play, you want to score goals, but it’s up to the manager.

“If myself and Odsonne can fit into that team, great. If not, one will be chomping at the bit to get in.”
