NOMINATE YOUR McNIFICENT MAN

-

WHAT do a best selling novelist, a proud dad and a Boys’ Brigade volunteer have in common? They are all McNificent.

Three months ago, Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh joined forces with the Daily Record and iconic beer brand McEwan’s to honour amazing men of Scotland, who might otherwise go overlooked.

And after receiving nominations from around the country, David Connell, 47, and John Young, 52, took up their place in the McEwan’s McNificent Seven line-up – winning a signed copy of Irvine Welsh’s latest novel, Dead Men’s Trousers, a case of McEwan’s beer every month for a year, and a two-night stay in the Principal Edinburgh George Hotel in Edinburgh.

Now, nominations have reopened to find the fourth McNificent Man, and the amazing man in your life could be the next winner.

“We launched this campaign to give everyday men the chance to be recognised for doing something that has had a positive impact beyond themselves,” said Joanna Stickler, McEwan’s brand manager.

“Men who have never sought praise, who have been selfless in their motivations, and I have to say that, during the few months that we’ve led this campaign with the Daily Record, we have received some hugely inspiring stories.

“Both David and John thoroughly deserve the credit of being named a McEwan’s McNificent Man – and we still have four more to announce.”

As well as recognising Scotland’s unsung heroes, McEwan’s have also teamed up with Prostate Cancer UK to raise vital funds and awareness through sales of specially designed Bawbags McNificent Boxers.

Each pair costs £12.50, with all profits going to Prostate Cancer UK, and you can get 20 per cent off your own pair by finding a discount code on promotional bottles of McEwan’s Export, Champion or Headspace, and from participating pubs.

Joanna added: “Prostate cancer kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK and is set to become the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer by 2030.

“We need to get men talking about this because it isn’t going to go away, and that’s why we asked Irvine Welsh to send a message to go and get checked.

“Buy them for your dad, your uncle, your brother, your friend, for you or for Christmas, and help save men’s lives.”

Nominations for the McEwan’s McNificent Seven competition are open from today, Saturday, September 29, until midnight on Sunday, October 14.
