No one a fan of blundering beaks

-

FROM the moment it was announced, the plan to squeeze fans of four football teams into one stadium in one day was ludicrous.

Days of dire warnings from supporters, from police, from the Government and MSPs – yet no climbdown from the clever people who run the game.

Finally, the call came through yesterday that the idea was ridiculous – just as they’d been told.

Imagine if fans had been listened to on day one. Obviously, that’s a pipe dream.

Perhaps the football authorities could have discussed it with the train operators, who don’t run a service to get Aberdeen fans to Glasgow in time for their match.

Or they could have asked police if they were entirely convinced that sending four sets of fans to Glasgow at odd times of the day was a super plan.

In the end, the overwhelming view has pushed the beaks into seeing sense.

Now they have accepted that they need to change their half-baked, nonsensical proposal.

By the time the SPFL put out their statement at 4.30pm announcing a U-turn, they really had been left with no option.

Now the footballing authorities need to consult the clubs, police and transport operators to find the best way forward.

More importantly, they need to change their “we know best” attitude and listen to the people who matter most – the fans.
