Plea for clues on mystery tats man found at cathedral

Puzzle of male who can’t remember who he is

-

BY SARAH WARD POLICE are trying to trace the family of a mystery man who took ill in a cathedral – and can’t remember who he is.

The man, in his 60s, has been unidentified for nearly two weeks and is being treated in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Officers have spoken to the patient but he has no memory of his identity, does not know where he came from or who his relatives are and does not match the description of anyone reported missing.

The man has four tattoos – a butterfly on his upper left arm and a seahorse on his upper right arm, as well as Chinese writing on the inner parts of both arms.

He was wearing a blue camouflage hat, navy blue jumper and a bomber jacket of the same colour from Alpha Industria MA1 when he became ill at about 6pm on September 20, in St Giles’ Cathedral, in Edinburgh.

He was also wearing a red Timberland chequered shirt, green GE Feuchter Passau camouflage trousers and brown Timberland boots. The man had a Porsche-design silver bracelet watch with a navy clock face and white dial and the days of the week are in Portuguese.

Constable Lesley Jack, from Howdenhall Police Station, said: “This is a very unusual inquiry.

“We hope that by issuing this detailed description, someone will recognise this male and come forward to assist with our inquiries.”

The mystery mirrors the plot of American TV series Blindspot.

In the drama, a tattooed woman is found in New York’s Times Square by the FBI, with no recollection of her identity.
