Kane’s able to hit Messi’s standard

-

HARRY KANE believes he can overtake Lionel Messi as one of the world’s all-time greats.

He goes head to head with the Barcelona superstar at Wembley tonight and the Spurs striker says his target is to beat the Argentine’s scoring feats.

Messi has netted 103 Champions League goals in his glittering career but took 23 games to reach 10 in the competition while Kane would make it 10 in 12 European games if he scores against Barca.

Kane said: “He (Messi) has set the standard.

“When you’re scoring as many goals as he is, 40 or 50, 60 goals a season, as a striker, I want to try to match that and do the same.

“He is still is scoring, for me it motivates me to improve and one day score as many if not more than he has.

“It’s a great test. As players you want to play against the best players in the world and Messi is certainly that.

“He’s a fantastic player and we’ll do our best to stop him adding to that record in England.”

Kane admits Spurs desperately need a result after losing to Inter Milan but called on his team to summon the spirit of last season when they beat Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

Kane added: “We’ve proved we can beat the beat teams in the world.

“We need to play with energy and take that momentum for the rest of the campaign.”
