Kindness counts

-

WHEN homeless Igor Gieci was beaten senseless by a gang of thugs, it could have been the end of him.

But passers-by rallied round and Igor was given a haircut, medicine, glasses and even a home by helpers.

Well done to those who went the extra mile for someone they didn’t even know. Sometimes the kindness of strangers is the purest of all.

A HOMELESS man beaten to a pulp by youths was given a haircut, medicine, glasses and even a home by appalled locals.

Igor Gieci, 55, was jumped by three teenagers who kicked and punched him, tore up his tent and hit him with his crutches in a brutal attack.

Locals heard about the assault and launched a fundraising bid to get him off the street as he recovers.

In two days, they took him for a haircut, bought him glasses and got his medicine from a chemist.

A property developer gave him a flat to sleep in and strangers have donated more than £1000 towards a more permanent home.

Photos show Igor beaming as he receives help from locals, who hope to set him up with enough cash for six months’ rent.

Meanwhile, police are appealing for information to track down the thugs who left Igor with a broken BY RICHARD PERCIVAL eye socket and a severely bruised face and stomach.

The campaign is being led by Mark Butcher, 49, who said: “This is the most vicious attack I’ve seen. It completely left me in tears.

“It’s barbaric. I just don’t understand because he’s such a gentleman.

Mark added that Igor “was so happy” with all they had done for him, he “could not believe it.”

During the attack in Blackpool on Monday, Slovakian Igor said he begged the teenagers to stop, saying: “Please, stop it, stop it, me no problem.”

After the attack, Igor was treated for significant facial injuries in hospital.

Mark said: “The plan is to get him back to work because that’s the only way he can sustain himself.’

After receiving his flat, Igor, who has been homeless for six months, hugged Mark and said: “Thank you, my friend. Good man. Thank you.”
