A GOLF fan was hit on the head by a wayward shot at a top tournament, just days after a woman was seriously injured at the Ryder Cup.
The spectator was pictured bleeding from a head wound after the incident on the first day of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
She was hit by a shot from defending champion Tyrrell Hatton, who watched on as the woman was treated by medical staff.
Hatton, a member of Europe’s Ryder Cup team, spoke to the woman, believed to be from Edinburgh, when she returned to her feet.
She was later seen walking to a buggy and smiling as she was taken to the medical centre at Kingsbarns in Fife.
Hatton said: “It is one of the worst feelings I’ve ever had on the golf course. I’ve never hit anyone before. I was pretty devastated.
“But this shows that golf is really not that important. It was hard to concentrate afterwards
After being treated by paramedics, the woman was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. Her condition is not thought to be serious.
A police spokeswoman said: “We BY PETER DAVIDSON were in attendance. At around 12.40pm we got a report of a spectator being injured. She was treated by paramedics.”
The incident comes less than a week after Corine Remande suffered a horrific injury when she was hit by a tee shot from American Brooks Koepka during the opening session of the Ryder Cup at Le Golf National near Paris.
She suffered a broken eye socket and an exploded eyeball.
Koepka, who is also playing at the tournament in Scotland, was “heartbroken” when he learned of the extent of Corine’s injuries.
He said: “I wasn’t told until I got to the course – I’m not the biggest person on social media – so when I got here and had about seven missed calls and 25 text messages I was like, ‘What’s going on?’
“Then I was told the news and obviously I am really heartbroken.”
