Neighbours tell of shock at stabbing

The 25-year-old, identified locally only by the nickname “Gowser”, was killed in Bellshill, Lanarkshir­e, in the early hours of Wednesday.

Forensic officers were at the scene yesterday and a tent had been erected in the garden at the front door of the end-terrace house in Bellvue Crescent,

Detectives were carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

According to residents in the street, the man had been stabbed and was taken to Monklands Hospital but pronounced dead.

A woman said: “The guy that has died didn’t live in the house. There’s a young woman lives there with children.”

A man said: “I came out this morning and I couldn’t get to my car. There were police everywhere.”

Several people paid tribute to Gowser – with some saying his first name was Ross. Dano Smith posted: “RIP Gowser, ye were some boy.”

Tania Brownlie said: “Rest in peace, Gowser, spread those angel wings and fly high my man.”

A post from Anne Smith read: “OMG so sad. RIP pal xxxxx”.

The death is the second serious incident in the area in the last few weeks. On September 24, a 26-year-old man was taken to hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Caledonian Avenue.

Locals believe the two incidents may be related but police said they were not linking them at the moment.

Police urged anyone out in Bellvue Crescent between 3am and 5am on Wednesday to come forward.”
