Making the most of autumn in city

-

WITH leaves crunching under foot and a crisp breeze nipping at your face, there’s nothing quite like the beginning of the autumn. ACTION: If the weather starts to turn, take refuge inside one of the city centre’s great cinemas, where you can enjoy everything from the latest blockbusters to classic flicks.

On Renfrew Street, you’ll find Cineworld, the world’s tallest cinema, and, just a short walk away on Rose Street, the arthouse Glasgow Film Theatre hosts a range of films from across the decades.

On Friday, October 26, the new Everyman Cinema will also open its doors in Princes Square offering a boutique viewing experience in three intimate auditoriums. GET ON YOUR BIKE: With so many landmarks and attractions to visit, why not be a tourist for the day and explore the city centre on two wheels? Glasgow’s NextBikes can be rented from just £1 for 30 minutes.

Once you’re in the saddle, embark on the city’s mural trail, which showcases an eclectic selection of unique and inspiring artwork including a trio of portraits of Billy Connolly by artists including Jack Vettriano.

Check out the newest editions such the Charles Rennie Mackintosh mural at The Clutha on Stockwell Street and the beautiful mural of St Enoch at the corner of George Street and High Street. TEMPT YOUR TASTEBUDS: Stack & Still, the UK’s largest pancake restaurant and selfdispensing bar, opens on October 11 on West George Street, offering a variety of sweet and savoury combinations to hungry visitors. Or if you prefer something a little more filling, build your own pie at Pizza Punks, where you’ll get unlimited toppings for just £10. BIG KIDS: From retro toys to hi-tech gizmos, kids big and small will have a great time in Hamleys, located within St Enoch Centre.

LEGO lovers should also visit the store in Buchanan Galleries, which is packed amazing toys and things to do.

Alternatively, Marvel, DC and sci-fi fans can head to Parnie Street in Merchant City for A1 Comics or Forbidden Planet on Buchanan Street. FAMILY DAY OUT: The King’s Theatre has plays and shows for the whole family, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which is appearing until October 13.

And at St Enoch Centre’s food court, you’ll find free face painting every Sunday – the perfect way to round off a week of fun.
