Lessons in Fife toughened up Saints new boy

-

ADAM HAMMILL can’t wait to pull on a St Mirren jersey after admitting his last spell in Scottish football toughened him up.

The winger, 30, had a loan stint at Dunfermline 10 years ago when he was coming through at Liverpool.

That prepared him for the rigours of pro football and he’s hoping the move to BY DAVID CAMPBELL Paisley can get him back on track after being released by Barnsley in the summer.

Hammill could make his debut against Aberdeen tomorrow after agreeing a deal until January.

And the Scouser said “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Dunfermline.

“It was a tough league and you had to take a few hits. It toughened me up and the marks on my shins are proof.

“It’s all or nothing, proper men’s football.”

Hammill had offers from all over the world but was impressed by new Saints boss Oran Kearney’s plans.

He added: “One thing that is always key to me is being valued – and that doesn’t always mean the club offering the most money.

“It is all about where you see yourself fitting in.”

The move north will also lead to a reunion with former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard when St Mirren face his Rangers side.

And Hammill said: “He is the best player I have ever seen in a red shirt.”
