STAR NOT HAUNTED BY HOWLER

You’d be a Villan if you didn’t send us up Bren

JOHN McGINN has warned Brendan Rodgers would be stepping into another high-pressure environment if he opted for Aston Villa.

The Scotland midfielder was shocked to see the Celtic boss pop up on his club’s wishlist to replace sacked Steve Bruce two months after turning down the chance to sign for him.

Now the ex-Hibs star is waiting to see if he’ll follow him to Villa, with Thierry Henry also in the frame.

McGinn has been blown away by the scale of the Villans and reckons his new boss will need to handle the lofty expectations of a club determined to return to the Premier League.

Asked about Rodgers being linked with the role, he said: “That’s football, isn’t it? It’s ironic. We never know what’s going to happen.

“I can’t affect that. Brendan came out the other day and said he’s happy at Celtic, he’s got a job to do. If it is Brendan or somebody else, I’ll soon see. Hopefully whoever comes in I’ll be able to impress them.

“When you go down and see the place it’s an eye-opener. It’s a club that deserves to be in the top half of the top flight – a massive club. And that means it’s very demanding.

“Whoever comes in, it doesn’t matter what name they are. If they’re not getting results there will be pressure. And you feel it as a player. It’s something you should thrive on, playing at a big club.

“It’s exciting the club is attracting big names but it comes with the territory.”
