KEVIN BRIDGES

-

THE comparisons have been inevitable, probably unfair and often a bit too easy to make.

But the “Best comic since Billy Connolly” tag that has lived with Kevin Bridges since his first breakout tour – now eight years ago – is also more apt than ever.

He has been rocking the Hydro this week – and will do for most of the rest of the month – with his sensational show The Brand New Tour.

It’s the best thing he has ever done. In fact, if you don’t go to see him, you’re missing out on one of the funniest nights of your life.

Bridges has always been funny, that’s a given, but this tour is a whole new level of comedy.

You will split your sides from start to finish as he finds a new way of looking at the world and the minutiae of ordinary life in ways that have genuinely not been done so well since the Big Yin in his prime.

The Clydebank-born comedian enjoyed a triumphant return to Glasgow on the night I saw him, with a blockbuster show which had the whole crowd in tears of laughter from start to rousing finish.

Offering perfect observations of Scots working-class culture, Bridges was in top form as he noted the changes in his own life, from his childhood home to a successful career and the west end of Glasgow world.

With killer one-liners, brilliant slants on life and perfectly constructed stories, Bridges showed why he’s No1.

The show is sold out but there are some tickets popping up on ethical resale site Twickets and from the venue itself at short notice, so make sure you catch it.
