SPANISH STYLE FLOORS WALES

-

SPAIN showed their class in Cardiff to stroll to a 4-1 friendly win over Wales.

There was no happy return to the Principality Stadium for the first time in seven and a half years for the Welsh as Paco Alcacer, with a double, and Sergio Ramos scored inside 29 minutes before sub Marc Bartra added a fourth with a towering second-half header.

Sam Vokes headed a consolation a minute from time but it was a sobering evening for Ryan Giggs’s men ahead of their Nations League game against the Republic of Ireland.

Welsh boss Giggs said: “When you come up against a really good team and you don’t do the basics, you’re in trouble.”

In the Nations League Bernardo Silva scored a cracking goal as new-look Portugal recovered to win 3-2 in Poland.

Andre Silva’s strike and a Kamil Glik own goal put the Euro champions ahead by half time, after Krzysztof Piatek had given Poland an early lead. Silva then got in the act early in the second half with a stunning individual goal. Poland sub Jakub Blaszczykowski, on his 103rd appearance as he became his country’s most capped player, pulled a goal back but it wasn’t enough. Kylian Mbappe’s lastminute penalty saved world champions France from an embarrassing home defeat in a 2-2 draw against Iceland. Iceland led 2-0 with just four minutes left courtesy of Birkir Bjarnason’s low finish from outside the box and ex-Aberdeen defender Kari Arnason’s header. Holmar Orn Eyjolfsson’s own goal four minutes from time gave the home side hope. And after Kolbeinn Sigthorsson handled in the box, PSG wonderkid Mbappe converted from the spot in the 90th minute.
