LURED TO HIS DEATH BY PHONE CALL

Gary gunned down in garden after ‘someone he trusted’ rang up

- BY RECORD REPORTER

A DAD gunned down in his front garden was lured outside by a phone call, we can reveal.

Gym boss Gary More was coaxed from his home after a trusted associate arranged a meeting.

When he stepped into the open, More was executed in cold blood by a gangland gunman.

GANGLAND execution victim Gary More took a phone call from “someone he trusted” minutes before his death.

The dad of two was asked to go outside to be picked up to do a job – but it was a ruse to make him an easy target.

When the car pulled up at his house in Airdrie, he was shot repeatedly while children playing nearby looked on.

Police have hit a wall of silence on the killing despite emotional appeals from More’s family to help snare the assassin.

Gym boss More, 32, was believed to be a gangland debt collector with links to the Lyons crime clan.

The hitman fired several shots into him on the night of September 6 and the martial arts expert is understood to have died instantly.

A gangland associate of More told the Record: “Someone he trusted has phoned and asked him to go and do something for them. He was told he was getting picked up and that’s the reason he was where he was at the time.

“It’s a tried and tested tactic and there’s no coincidence he was shot there in the driveway.”

More’s sister Lynsey earlier made an emotional public appeal following her brother’s death in normally quiet Gartness Drive. She revealed he had died in her arms and described him as “a good person with a good heart”. Pleading for anyone with information that might help the police investigation to come forward, she said: “Please don’t let another family suffer the way we have. If you know anything, please tell the police.”

A stolen white Skoda Fabia thought to have been used by the gunman was found burnt out near the village of Balmore, north of Glasgow.

There were sightings of a car matching its description in and around Airdrie after the murder and it’s thought there were a number of people in the vehicle.

Sources previously claimed More, who had a gym in his back garden, had been targeted by a Liverpool gang as an example over an unpaid debt.

Our source backed up claims he was a debt collector for a well-known family in North Lanarkshire but was also involved in the sale of illegal drugs including steroids. They said: “There’s been rumours this was over a debt but if you’re just a debt collector, you don’t get yourself into debt.

“He was getting too big for his boots and was set up by someone he trusted.

“There are network links to Liverpool but this has come from closer to home.

“But if it was someone local they wouldn’t have found the car burnt out near the north of Glasgow.”

More’s ex-girlfriend Natasha Holmes paid tribute to him in a social media post following his execution.

She described him as a “lovable big gentle giant” who would “never hurt anyone”.

But our source said: “Family and friends have painted him as a good guy but this is someone who was kicking doors in and collecting drug money.

“His public persona was different from his working one.”

Police declined to comment on the claims.
