Suicide claims rejected
A VICTIM of paedophile David Scott has denied claims that he drove her mum and gran to suicide.
Mum-of-one Sharon Scott, sister of the jailed predator, was found dead from a heroin overdose in Edinburgh in 1982.
A family member claimed in the Daily Record on Monday that Sharon was abused by Scott starting when she was 11, and it later led her to take her own life.
Sharon’s daughter, who has asked not to be named, has now come forward to reject those claims. She said there was no evidence Scott had raped her mother.
Her gran, Helen Scott, passed away in a caravan fire, aged 46, in Midlothian a year after Sharon’s death.
She said: “I am the only daughter of the young woman named in the article and I wish to make it clear there is no evidence my mother was raped by David William Scott and she definitely did not commit suicide but was unlawfully killed.
“Also, as she has been deceased since 1982, she obviously cannot defend her good name, which is why I, her only daughter, am obliged to do so. To be clear, there is also no evidence that my grandmother committed suicide.
“It was said that ‘Sharon has been forgotten about’ but I cannot make it clear enough, that my mother and my grandmother are in our thoughts and prayers every day.
“Please do not get the impression I am defending the paedophile David William Scott, as I am also a victim of this evil man and I helped to put him behind bars where he belongs.”
In May, Scott, 60, from Edinburgh, was jailed for 12 years after sexually abusing young girls for more than 45 years.
