New boss knows how to win this league so watch United fly now

-

FRASER FYVIE is confident Dundee United will hit the ground running under new boss Robbie Neilson at Firhill today.

The Tangerines skipper, who is back fit again following knee surgery that kept him out for eight months, has been impressed by the ex-Hearts and MK Dons gaffer as United try to kickstart their promotion push.

Fyvie said: “The new manager has come in with his own BY EUAN McARTHUR ideas. He has been telling us how he wants us to play.

“His ideas are different. When there’s a change of manager it’s usually because something hasn’t been right and results haven’t been good enough.

“You need to move on quickly in football so it’s up to us to listen to the new manager, adjust to things and learn fast.

“Training has been a bit sharper but we’re still doing things now we did under the old manager. Everyone has enjoyed it so it’s all good.

“The manager knows the league. He knows what’s needed to win it. They smashed the league at Hearts when he was the manager but it’s a different group of players and I’m sure he will be busy working out the best way to win matches.”

United won plaudits for their pretty passing game under Csaba Laszlo but many felt they lacked steel.

Fyvie added: “You have to have a game plan but be flexible so you can adjust. This league isn’t easy and the players who arrived in the summer now know what they’ve come into.

“You have to be able to battle as well as play football.

“But we believe we have the players who can do that.”
