NO MERCY AS DJOKOVIC SERVES UP TREAT

NOVAK DJOKOVIC continued his hot streak as he breezed past Croatian Borna Coric to win the Shanghai Masters.

The Serb triumphed 6-3 6-4 to claim the title for the fourth time in his career.

Djokovic didn’t lose his serve in the entire tournament and UPDATE he said: “This was definitely one of the best service weeks that I’ve had in my career.

“The last four months have been terrific.”

In the doubles final Scots star Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares lost 6-4 6-2 to Poland’s Lukasz Kubot and Brazil’s Marcelo Melo. TRIATHLON: David McNamee pulled off a late surge to claim third place at the Ironman world championsh­ips in Hawaii.

The 30-year-old from Ayrshire recorded a time of eight hours, one minute and nine seconds which was inside the previous course record.

But Germany’s Patrick Lange lowered his own benchmark to 7:52.30 to claim victory before proposing to his girlfriend on the finishing line, with Belgian Bart Aernouts coming second.

McNamee said: “It’s another third place but with a time that makes me the third fastest man in history in Hawaii.” MOTORSPORT: Scot Paul di Resta had to settle for third place in the DTM Championsh­ip.

He could only finish 14th in the final race at Hockenheim as Gary Paffett landed the title. Taylor watched on from ringside and was thrilled to see his stablemate win.

Taylor said: “I am absolutely delighted for Lee. It was a class fight.”

● UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomed­ov has set his sights on a fight with Floyd Mayweather after flooring Conor McGregor.

Boxing legend Mayweather famously beat McGregor in a one-off bout back in August 2017.

And Russian scrapper Nurmagomed­ov said: “Let’s go, Floyd, we have to fight now. It’s 50-0 v 27-0 – two guys who never lose.”

● WBC heavyweigh­t champion Deontay Wilder has apologised for flooring a mascot on a TV show.

It was reported the mascot, who was in a foam costume, suffered a broken jaw when Wilder was invited to show his punching power.

And Wilder said: “I sincerely apologise to the brave man who was injured, if this is true.”
