THE LOVE OF MY LIFE IS NOT COMING BACK

Dad Kevin, 51, dies after stabbing attack

- BY KEITH McLEOD

A MUM last night spoke of her grief after finding her partner stabbed and dying outside their home.

Shona Briody, 39, has been left heartbroken by the death of Kevin McGuire, 51.

A MUM has told how she saw her partner lying in a pool of blood outside her front door – seconds after he had been knifed in a vicious and unprovoked assault.

Kevin McGuire, 51, was rushed to hospital and had emergency surgery but could not be saved following the stabbing.

The dad of one had arrived at the home he shared with partner Shona Briody when a car with five men inside drove up.

It is thought four of the men left the car and attacked Kevin, while the driver remained in the vehicle.

Fighting tears, Shona, 39, said yesterday: “I heard a commotion. I opened the door and saw Kevin lying on the ground, covered with blood. I called 999, hysterically crying.

“Kevin was taken away in the ambulance then passed away after having surgery. “The love of my life is not coming back. That’s basically it.”

Shona, who has a son from a previous relationship, had been with finance agent Kevin for 14 years.

She said: ”It was a loving relationship. We were a solid unit.

“It is a small community. Kev was really liked by a lot of folk.

“My family and I have been left devastated.

“I’m heartbroken. I’m never going to see my partner ever again.

“I know how much Kev loved me because he told me every day. “I want justice for my partner.” It is thought Kevin – who has a daughter in her 20s from a previous relationship – was targeted in the brutal street attack in Wishaw, Lanarkshire, on Sunday.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “A car with five people in it drove up. I think four of them got out.

“I heard a commotion but I could not really see what happened after that.

“It is frightening that something like this can happen here.”

A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday.

Yesterday, police had sealed off two areas in the town to allow forensic investigations to take place.

A large area of Morar Street was cordoned off while a tarpaulin was covering the door of the house.

In nearby Greenhead Road, another area was sealed off by police tape. A neighbour said: “We’ve been told he was stabbed in the street. It is tragic.

“People who have lived here for decades have never experienced anything like it. It is a quiet area.”

Another neighbour said: “It is absolutely shocking.

“Nothing prepares you for something like this to happen. My thoughts are with Shona and Kevin’s family.

“They were a quiet couple who seemed to be very much together. For this to happen is just devastating.

“It makes you angry that people’s lives can be shredded like this – by people who behave like animals.”

A police spokesman said: “Around 12.30am on Sunday, October 14, a 51-year-old man was seriously injured following a disturbance outside a house in Morar Street, Wishaw.

“He was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital, where he later died.

“A post-mortem will take place in due course to establish the cause of death which at this time police are treating as suspicious. Inquiries are ongoing.

“Police are in attendance at Greenhead Road as part of an ongoing inquiry.” Police are thought to be studying CCTV from the local area.

At Greenhead Road, the police cordon surrounded some cars parked in the street.

A resident in the street said: “This has all been in place since I got up on Sunday morning. “You don’t know what to think. “I never hear anything on Saturday night, but we are told it is connected to an attack in the Pather area of the town.”
