THE KING & AYE

CAPTAIN Kirk beamed in to Edinburgh last night for the premiere of new Robert the Bruce movie Outlaw King. But Hollywood A-lister Chris Pine, famous for his role as Kirk in the Star Trek movies, had competition on the red carpet from 10-yearold Edinburgh actress Josie O’Brien. Schoolgirl Josie stars in the film as The Bruce’s daughter Marjorie. Her dad Andrew accompanied her on the red carpet as Josie posed for pictures with Chris. Proud Andrew said: “It’s a great night and it will be wonderful to see the film. It has been a year since she filmed it, so we’re all really excited.” Chris said he was delighted to be in Scotland for the premiere of the film about warrior king Robert the Bruce’s fight for independence. But Chris insisted he only set out to make a great movie, not to get involved in the debate about independence. He said: “It’s great to be back in Scotland. I hope the people of Scotland enjoy the film. The country has never looked better. “I didn’t set out to make a film that would be wielded as a tool for Scottish independence. That’s not what I get paid to do, I get paid to tell stories. It’s a story of one man’s desire for power, autonomy and the end of tyranny.”

Director David Mackenzie was thrilled to be unveiling his £85million Netflix epic in Scotland.

He said: “As far as I know, this is the biggest home-grown film ever made in Scotland and I hope this helps more things like this to happen in Scotland.”

Chris and Mackenzie were joined by co-stars Aaron Taylor Johnson, Tony Curran, James Cosmo and Billy Howle, and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
