Rogue parker gets points and a fine

-

BY STEPHEN HOUSTON A DAD who parked outside his local Co-op to buy a pint of milk nearly blocked US president Donald Trump’s convoy during his last Scottish visit.

Peter Goudie, 34, got a shock when he left the shop to be met by armed police officers who ordered his Volkswagen Golf be removed from Maybole’s High Street in Ayrshire urgently.

Air Force One had already touched down 15 miles away at Prestwick airport and Trump’s motorcade was on the way to his Turnberry golf resort – with Maybole at the centre of the route.

Goudie was oblivious to the excitement and had taken his wife’s car to get some milk.

It proved to be a big mistake as he ended up pleading guilty to stopping on a zig-zag line at a pelican crossing, having no insurance, taking his wife’s car without permission and not having a full licence.

Peter Lockhart, defending, told Ayr Justice of the Peace Court last week: “My client had not noticed the high police presence.

“He was alarmed when he was approached by the police in the shop and even more alarmed when he came out and saw more police, including armed police.”

He explained that it had been a costly exercise as police had removed and impounded his client’s car.

Mr Lockhart added: “His wife was furious when she found out as it cost £150 to get the car back the following day.

“He was in the doghouse for his stupidity.”

Goudie, of Maybole, had eight penalty points placed on his licence and was fined £575.
