DJ’s pride after son helps rail stranger
Distressed man was suicidal
DJ EWEN Cameron has revealed his pride in his son after he helped a man on the brink of suicide.
The radio DJ told how his 18-year-old son was left “shaken” after coming across a man thinking of taking his own life at a railway station.
Ewen posted the story to his followers on Twitter, which has since been shared more than 600 times.
He said: “My son was at a train station and noticed a man pacing up and down near the edge of the platform.
“The man, really upset, approached my son and tried to give him £50 and said, ‘I just want to make someone happy as I won’t need it’.
“My son refused to take it and quickly realised this man was contemplating ending his life.
“My son asking, ‘What’s wrong?’ and the man broke down and told my son his problems.”
Ewen added: “My son listened. Showed an interest. After a wee while the man, calmer, got up and stepped on to a train.
“My son then went and spoke to personnel at the train station. He gave a description of the man and they radioed it through. “I’m mighty proud. “You never know what goes on behind a smile. If you do suspect something is wrong then please ask that person if they’re OK.”
Responding to the tweet, Glasgow Samaritans said: “You have every reason to be proud, Ewen. Your son’s response was exemplary.
“Just by listening, he gave that man a chance to think about his situation – and realise that someone cared about him.”
And ScotRail added: “Fantastic. Your son should be proud of his actions! #SmallTalkSavesLives”.
