Father tells of devastatio­n as son’s body is found in river after work night out

THE dad of a young man who was found dead after a work night out yesterday told of his family’s heartache.

James Anderson, 20, had been socialisin­g with workmates in Glasgow when he went missing.

His body was recovered from the River Clyde on Wednesday.

James’s father Joe, of Johnstone, Renfrewshi­re, said: “I just want to let everyone know that we are really devastated and heartbroke­n.

“James will be truly missed by everyone. All his family and friends love him very dearly and he will always be in our heart.”

Police are treating the young Celtic supporter’s death as “unexplaine­d” and inquiries were ongoing yesterday.

James worked at KFC, where he had recently been praised by bosses for his hard work and commitment.

Many of his friends paid tribute to him on social media.

Steven Malarkey said James was “one of the best people you could ever BY LISA TONER reporters@dailyrecor­d.co.uk meet.” He added: “Can’t actually believe this is happening. Lost for words and don’t know what to say.

“RIP to one of my very best friends, a brother and one of the best people you could ever meet.

“Gonna miss you lots mate, you were one of a kind, love you brer.”

Shannon Brown took to Facebook to say: “In absolute shock. Was amazing to work with you and an honour to call you my friend.

“RIP James Anderson, taken from everyone far too young. You will be missed.”

Meanwhile, a Celtic fans’ group have called for a mass tribute to James at the club’s League Cup semi-final against Hearts at Murrayfiel­d tomorrow.

Cmon the Hoops Celtic posted: “Today we learn of the death of another young Celtic man, James Anderson.

“Let’s get the word out for a minute applause on Sunday on the 19th minute for him. Rest in Paradise, James.”
