Codebreaker could help fight cancer
Car kills walker
WORK by World War II codebreaker Alan Turing could help develop better tests for the early detection of cancer and other diseases, say experts.
Edinburgh University researchers believe his mathematical techniques could be used to help measure the effectiveness of existing diagnostic tools.
Professor Paul McKeigue said: “The new era of precision medicine is emerging and this method should make it easier for researchers and regulatory agencies to decide when a new diagnostic test should be used.” A walker has died after being struck by a car. The 43-year-old man was on the A71 in Galston, Ayrshire, when he was hit by a Toyota on Saturday night. THIS is the extraordinary moment a golden eagle swoops on ... a deer.
Amateur wildlife snapper Colin Black, 46, captured the “once-in-alifetime” images while driving through Glenshee, Aberdeenshire.
The golden eagle can be seen grabbing on to the fawn’s neck as it attempts to make a getaway.
Not giving up, the young deer can be seen sprinting for its life as the eagle desperately tries to keep up.
Colin said: “I will probably never experience anything like that again. I was out trying to photograph the BY YASMIN HARISHA stags because it is rutting season. But I caught the eagle out of the corner of my eye and it was chasing this deer.
“The deer was running for a couple of minutes and then, all of a sudden, two more eagles came, so there were three around it.
“I don’t know if the deer escaped but one of the eagles had a big chunk of something in its claws.
“When you see an eagle in real life, you see how big it is. And when you look at the pictures, you can see it is almost the same size as the deer.”
