-

A MOTHER and daughter business team are celebrating winning a Dragons’ Den-style technology award – and a £140,000 cheque from movie star Ashton Kutcher.

Loral and Eshel Quinn, 23, run Edinburgh-based tech firm Sustainably.

Their app allows people to donate their spare change to charity automatically by rounding it up to the nearest pound each time they shop.

And after pitching their work to a panel of judges, including Hollywood A-lister Kutcher, they pipped 800 UK finalists to land one of eight gongs at the WeWork Creator Awards in London.

Last night, company co-founder Loral, 47, explained: “With Sustainably, you simply connect your card, then every time you shop on your card or connected device, it rounds up your spare change to causes you care about.

“It launched for Monzo Bank customers last year and is going to market soon, connected to 17 UK banks, supporting more good causes.”

Sustainably launched just two years BY JAMES MONCUR j.moncur@dailyrecord.co.uk ago and Loral added: “It’s amazing to think that, in that short time, we made it to the final and were voted for by amazing judges including Ashton Kutcher.”

Other judges included the publishing director of British Vogue, Vanessa Kingori, app designer Michelle Kennedy, and Jonas Templestein, co-founder of online bank Monzo.

The Creator Awards were established to recognise and reward creators from all over the world and provide them with the extra funding they need to take their ideas to the next stage.

After the ceremony, Kutcher tweeted: “An epic night celebrating amazing innovators. We are building something truly amazing here.”
