Losing like that is just not con

Rennie raging as Munster deny Warriors at the death

DAVE RENNIE believes Munster conned their way to Pro14 victory over his Glasgow battlers.

The Warriors coach was left gutted after watching his side suffer a dramatic last-kick defeat in Limerick.

Rennie was convinced the streetwise home side hoodwinked ref Dan Jones into handing the Irish Euro veterans the clinching penalty that brought heartache to an under-strength Glasgow side that was missing a number of Scotland stars.

He said: “At this level it’s a game of inches and Munster are smart. They isolated our ball carrier by taking out his support players yet it was us who were penalised.”

The fateful penalty award came just 12 second from full-time and Rennie added: “We were one ruck away from winning. We had done enough to get the victory so it was very disappointing to lose in that fashion.

“I can’t praise them highly enough for their commitment and guts. We were without a lot of our main players yet we went toe to toe with one of the most powerful teams in Europe.

“Rugby can be cruel at times but it was good to earn a couple of consolation points.

“I was really proud of the guys. It’s tough to come over here against a really strong Munster side.”

Part-time marksman Rory Scannell emerged as the home hero by banging over Munster’s last-gasp clincher.

The Ireland utliity back said: “There is tremendous rivalry between us and Glasgow, we love taking them on and vice-versa. We didn’t

do ourselves justice over at Scotstoun at the start of the season so that made this win all the more enjoyable.”

Glasgow were on the cusp of their first victory at Thomond Park since April 2014 thanks to two counterattacking tries from scrumhalf George Horne.

That gave them a 12-7 halftime lead and Horne’s brother Pete then bagged the bonuspoint score on the back of a Matt Fagerson try.

However, Munster rallied superbly against the Conference A leaders as tries from replacement Alex Wootton and Alby Mathewson made it a twopoint game entering the final seven minutes.

While winding down the clock Glasgow coughed up a penalty at the breakdown.

And Munster centre Scannell was spot on as he delivered a peach of a strike from 55 metres out.
