MUM TELLS OF BRUTAL BIRTH

by KIRSTY McKENZIE A MUM’S horrific labour left her traumatise­d – and her hubby needing treatment for PTSD.

Lynsey Cowan’s physical and mental health plunged after delivering baby Lilly in difficult circumstan­ces.

The 27-year-old from Erskine, Renfrewshi­re, was diagnosed with postnatal depression as she watched her weight balloon in the weeks after giving birth.

Meanwhile, husband Darren had to be treated for PTSD after he saw his daughter pulled out with a suction cup during the brutal labour.

Lynsey, also mum to Jack, three, says Lilly’s head was “black and blue” after the birth and has vowed she will never have another child.

She told our sister title the Paisley Daily Express: “I lost two litres of blood during the labour – it was awful. I went from 9cm dilated to 5cm in just 10 minutes but the baby was back to front so her head wasn’t facing the right way.

“When she got stuck, they had to push the emergency button and about 12 doctors and nurses came in. They wanted to use forceps but I refused because I’d heard so many horror stories.

“But it got to the point I wasn’t pushing because the pain was so intense. She was so distressed and tired and so was I.

“In the end, they had to tell my husband they were going to use a ventouse to deliver her. I didn’t know if it was New York or New Year – all I could think about was the pain.”

Lilly was delivered at 7.18am weighing 8lb 1oz but developed jaundice and mum and baby stayed in hospital for observatio­n.
