Gaz hopes he’ll hook a big fish at Grand Slam

-

GARY ANDERSON may have left the river bank empty-handed but hopes to reel in a big fish at the bwin Grand Slam.

Record Sport revealed earlier this week that the Scottish hero is going fishing to relax as he chases a first success in the event in Wolverhampton.

Anderson admits the refreshing experience has put him in the right frame of mind to reel in a big catch at the Slam.

He said: “I caught nothing at all. I just got soaked but I really enjoyed sitting out in the fresh air in total peace and quiet.

“No phones on, just a great day with Ian White and Michael Smith, having a laugh with not a care in the world.

“I wasn’t that bothered about not catching anything. Maybe I’ll catch the big fish at the end of the week at the Grand Slam. I wouldn’t mind that at all.

“It’s a good carry on with the boys. Michael doesn’t do anything at all, he waits until Ian sets everything up for him and just watches.

“I’ve worked with Michael for 10 years, hence the grey hair and bags under my eyes!

“Wherever we are Ian, Michael and I sit together. Ian’s great because he’s the joker of the pack.

“I gave Ian some stick after beating him 5-1 on Sunday night. He wanted to know where my 91 average was against him. Everything went in for me, it was just one of those nights. Michael is a good lad.”

Meanwhile, Dimitri Van den Bergh last night became the first player to hit a nine-darter in the bwin Grand Slam for three years during his 10-6 win over Stephen Bunting.
