I need to go and get my daddy up in the sky

HEARTBREAK OF MURDER VICTIM’S SON, 3

- BY LISA TONER

THE son of a man who was stabbed to death has told his mum he needs to “get my daddy up in the sky”.

Owen Hassan, three, is struggling to understand that his adored dad, Owen snr, won’t be coming home.

THE broken-hearted son of a murder victim has told his mum: “I need to go and get my daddy up in the sky.”

Courtney Thomson released a clip of her wee boy in a bid to help catch those who killed Owen Hassan.

The dad of three, 30, was stabbed to death by two men outside his mum’s pub in the south side of Glasgow on Wednesday, November 7.

Courtney said their threeyear-old son Owen jnr is struggling to understand that he will never see his dad again.

She posted an audio file on Facebook of little Owen saying: “Mummy, I need to go and get my daddy up in the sky.”

Yesterday, a week after her fiance was murdered, Courtney spoke out in a bid to persuade his killers to hand themselves in.

She said: “I hope they listen to my son and feel enough remorse to give themselves up.

“Why should they be able to go about their lives? How would they feel if it was their child?”

The mum of one, who was with Owen for four years, told how their son is now refusing to do things he always used to do with his dad.

She said: “My boy didn’t want to go to his first football lesson last night because Daddy was supposed to take him.

“He won’t go for a hair cut either because his daddy would usually do that with him too.”

She added: “He opens the blinds every morning, points up and says, ‘My daddy’s not there, he’s in the pub.’”

Courtney said she is now left having to break the news to her son, who had been inseparable from his dad, again and again.

The anguished mum said: “This is something no mother should have to do. I’ve gone from being hurt to angry.

“These people have robbed a little boy of his hero.”

Last week, Courtney posted pictures of the family in happier times on Facebook, with a tribute saying: “My heart is broken. Every time I look at our boy’s face, it breaks all over again. He worshipped the ground you walked on.

“I’ll make sure he knows all about how he was Daddy’s best pal.”

Owen had been in the Old Stag Inn in Shawlands, owned by his mum, before the attack.

He left at about 10.25pm and was approached by two men. He ran but the men chased him and subjected him to a sustained attack.

Owen made it back to the pub, where his mum and others tried to keep him alive until emergency services arrived.

Last night, police were in the area talking to people who may have been there at the time in a bid to find more witnesses.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Fergus said: “We will trace whoever is responsible.”

He urged anyone with information to call 101 quoting reference 4167 of November 7 or phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Police believe Owen was the intended victim of the attack but are still working to establish a motive.

They also confirmed that they received some anonymous information yesterday and are urging that person to get back in contact as they may have more detail that could help.

I hope they listen and feel remorse MUM COURTNEY
