A trauma centre which will provide specialist care and rehabilitation for patients has been opened at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. BY CHARLIE GALL A SUSPECTED arsonist was being held last night over a fire in which a man died.

Police confirmed a 36-year-old man had been arrested within hours of the death of Thomas “Tucker” McLeish.

Emergency services were called to the flat fire in Perth at 9.50pm on Sunday.

The alarm was raised after the blaze started at St Catherine’s Square, which was evacuated.

But Thomas was found in the building and was pulled from one of the flats.

Friends believe the Glaswegian had been asleep in a pal’s flat as the fire took hold.

Paramedics battled to save Thomas but sadly he died at the scene.

Residents spoke of smoke and flames coming from the front and back of the flats just before 10pm.

Romina Burns, a resident at a neighbouring tower block, said: “They were trying and trying with him. Then it was all quiet.”

Yesterday, Detective Inspector Gavin McKinlay said: “I’d like to appeal to anyone in the area of St Catherine’s Square in Perth just before 10pm who saw anyone acting suspiciously to get in touch.”

On Facebook, friend Ray Stevenson said: “Tucker was lying sleeping. Poor guy would give you his last.”

Rebecca McAllister said: “Rest in peace Tucker. Thinking of Ann & family.”

A FIRE at a house in Livingston in which a man in his 40s died is being probed but is not being treated as suspicious.
