Gus: Saints will shop in January to save skins

-

BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY ST MIRREN technical director Gus MacPherson has revealed the Buddies plan to tool up in January for their survival scrap.

The Paisley side sit just a point off bottom in the Premiership with new boss Oran Kearney winless in his first nine games.

But former manager MacPherson – who has returned in his new role after quitting as Queen’s Park gaffer – will do all he can in the transfer window to ensure Kearney has a chance to keep them up.

MacPherson said: “Recruitment is one of the major parts of my role. I’ve been here, there and everywhere looking at players. I don’t mind that.

“Some days I’m fighting traffic on the Kingston Bridge at 7am then come 7pm I’m down watching a game in Manchester. I’ve got the buzz back.”

MacPherson has been impressed by Kearney and insists the Irishman knows what St Mirren need to survive.

He said: “Oran’s very single-minded and knows exactly what he wants. That has been the most impressive factor.

“He knew how he wanted to go about his business, what type of player he wanted, how he wanted the team to play.

“We have players in mind but it’s an ongoing process. The list gets bigger but we know what we need.

“The hard bit is actually finalising deals.”
