Stabbing hunt dashcam plea

Police appeal to motorists after hospital attack

- BY KEITH McLEOD

POLICE believe a motorist may have captured an image of a blood-soaked knifewoman fleeing after attacking a health worker.

Detectives have appealed for drivers to check dashcam footage in the wake of the community support worker’s stabbing in hospital grounds.

Mum-of-one Donna Maxwell staggered back into Ailsa Hospital with the blade still lodged in her after being set-upon without warning.

Sources said she was lucky to be alive following Thursday’s attack at Ayr’s addiction support unit.

Luckily, her injuries are now said to be not life-threatening.

In the aftermath, the nearby Queen Margaret Academy school went into lockdown as a precaution.

Yesterday, neighbour Helen Johnston, 50, said: “I can’t believe it. The woman has a heart of gold. I’ve never met anybody like her.

“I’m 50 and I’ve been everywhere but Donna is one of a kind. We moved here 14 months ago and she has made us feel right at home.

“She’s the type of person who you could stand and talk about anything.”

It is thought that Donna’s husband Thomas, 46, was at her hospital bedside yesterday. The couple have a daughter, Alex.

It is thought Donna was ambushed as she went to the car park to collect something from her car.

Yesterday, police said dashcam footage may be crucial.

They are also checking CCTV cameras from the area.

Superintendent Brian Shaw said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area of Ailsa Hospital in Dalmellington Road, Ayr, anytime between 9.30am and 10.30am and who may have captured the woman on their vehicle’s dashcam.”

The woman being hunted is described as being about 5ft 2in and aged between 30 and 50 years. She was wearing a dark woolly hat and a dark jacket.
