NEW ZEALAND specialist­s Silver Fern Holidays have released an independen­t Kiwi tour to mark the 250th anniversar­y of Captain James Cook’s first landing in 1769.

The itinerary covers the North Island coastline and locations associated with the Yorkshire-born explorer, including Gisborne, Poverty Bay and the Bay of Plenty, the Bay of Islands and Ship Cove in the Marlboroug­h Sounds, which is accessible only by boat or on foot.

A spokesman said: “Ship Cove was Cook’s favourite anchorage for Endeavour and he took on provisions there five times during his three voyages.
