JAMES CALLS FOR CAPITAL SUPPORT

EDINBURGH v INVERNESS CT

-

JAMES McDONAUGH has urged Hibs and Hearts fans to get behind Edinburgh City’s bid to grab a famous Cup victory over Inverness tomorrow.

His classy Citizens are enjoying a memorable season, sitting top of League Two and looking forward to an Irn-Bru Cup semi-final against Connah’s Quay in Wales in February.

But he insists they are still major underdogs to get past Caley at Ainslie Park.

McDonaugh said: “We have done well in the cups this season and it’s great for the club.

“The players have been brilliant and shown loads of character. I’m proud of what the players have done. Expectations are creeping higher but we know we are up against it.

“Hibs and Hearts are playing on Saturday and it would be great if we get a few extra fans in there, the more the better.”

Inverness boss John Robertson will field his strongest available XI – and bristled at suggestions he might do otherwise.

He’s a native of the capital who knows City well and reckons they offer a potent threat to his club.

Robertson said: “We will play our strongest available side. It’s as simple as that.

“Anything else would be really disrespectful to Edinburgh City and I would not do that to any team.

“I’ve too much respect for their management team and their players to even contemplate that.”
