NIKO ONLY TON WELL THANKS TO PALS

-

MODEST Niko Matawalu credited his fellow Warriors with a sizzling century show.

The Fijian marked his 100th Glasgow appearance with a try double as Dave Rennie’s side moved 13 points clear at the Pro14 summit.

Having bashed the Blues on their own patch in the Champions Cup, the Warriors carried on where they left off by sealing a bonus point before half-time. Matawalu said: “The other guys created the chances for me – I was just fortunate to be in the right places at the right times.

“It was a special night but I regard every match I play for Glasgow as a special occasion. I have been hugely honoured to be involved with this club.”

Cardiff had a monopoly of possession in the opening sparring session and led through Jarrod Evans’s penalty.

His strike sparked Glasgow into life as Ruaridh Jackson set up Adam Ashe for a try goaled by Pete Horne.

And the crowd were on their feet in the 17th minute when Matawalu snapped up a sidestepping touchdown.

A slick offloading move ended with Callum Gibbins skidding over for No.3 before Tommy Seymour claimed the bonus-point try as Horne converted both.

Cardiff pulled back a rolling maul score after the restart through Kristian Dacey only for Glasgow sub Rory Hughes to latch on to Ali Price’s chip.

Evans bagged the Blues’ second counter thanks to flimsy defence but the loudest cheer came when Matawalu completed his double with a long-range interception.
