I’LL GET YOU AT THE ALLY PALLY

Ando’s out for revenge on MVG DARTS

- BY CRAIG SWAN

GARY ANDERSON reckons he can exact revenge on Michael van Gerwen in the final instalment of a stunning trilogy.

The Scotsman’s bid for a second Players Championship Finals title was ended last night after a breathtaking semi-final between the pair.

Anderson had won a classic 16-12 in the last four of the Grand Slam of Darts seven days earlier only for MVG to hit back 11-9 in Somerset.

The Dutchman’s heroics took their toll, though, as he was sunk 11-9 in the Final by Daryl Gurney.

As for Anderson, he’d already turned his attention to winning a decider between’s the game’s two best players by setting up and winning a semifinal at the World Championships in the Alexandra Palace next month.

The 47-year-old said: “We get on well. We have our fall-outs and our arguments. It’s usually a wee bit of handbags and we sort it out.

“But we get on to the stage and want to batter each other. It’s now 1-1 over the past two weeks and there’s a tournament to come so we’ll see what happens there.

“Now it’s the big one in a few weeks’ time – I’m looking forward to that. Three weeks at the Ally Pally, that’s the one everyone wants to win. If you can’t get up for that then you’re in the wrong job. This year has been good, I don’t know how because the practice has gone right out of the window.

“I get home now and don’t even look at a dartboard. I run about with the kids, take them to school, sneak out for a day’s fishing. It’s riding your luck a bit but between now and the start of the Worlds it’s going to be busy – lots of practice in.

“People keep asking me why I’m always playing Michael in the semifinals and I say, ‘It’s because I’m lazy’. I’m ranked No.4, I don’t do all the tournaments, I take it easier.

“It’s going OK. They say you need to practise and practise but the way I’ve been doing it over the past 18 months seems to be a bit different.

“I’m now thinking as long as you do four hours before a game that’s fine because we’ve been around long enough to know where everything is.”

Anderson and Van Gerwen were locked at 9-9 in a belter before the Dutchman nailed the last two legs.

But it was Gurney who went on to win the eventual showdown on the bull in front of 5000 fans.
